Ebb and flow or regional extinctions? On the character of Neandertal occupation of northern environments

چکیده
In the course of the last 500,000 years, the Neandertal lineage was the first human group to extensively colonize the middle latitudes of western Eurasia up to 55◦ N. Although Neandertals were able to adapt to a variety of environments, their ability to cope with extreme glacial environments seems to have been very limited. Depending on the climatic cycles, their presence in the northern environments was essentially discontinuous. The periodical abandonment of some areas is generally interpreted as resulting in a movement of northern populations into southern refuges and a subsequent recolonisation of the northern regions. Here, we argue that the current palaeo-ecological, archaeological and palaeogenetic evidence supports a model of local extinctions rather than a habitat tracking model. To cite this article: J.-J. Study of Current Profile in the Khuran Channel using ADCP Measurements
Thirteen repetitions of a cross-channel transect in the Khuran Channel within the Strait of Hormuz allowed the description of the mean flow and semidiurnal tidal properties of a north-south transect. Water velocity profiles were obtained with a 614.4 kHz TRDI Work Horse Broadband ADCP along this 3.3 km long transect on 10 October 2014, the third day of secondary spring tide. The M2, M4 and M6 f...

متن کاملEvaluation of the Effects of Vegetation Characteristics on Desertification (Case Study: Northern Hableh Roud, Iran)
One of the characteristics in Iranian Model of Desertification Potential Assessment (IMDPA) is vegetation. Sincevegetation is very important factor in the degradation of land, so some indices were determined for this item in order toevaluate desertification potential of arid, semi arid and arid sub humid areas of Iran. The indices included vegetationcondition, exploit and revegetation. To calib...

متن کاملEvaluation of genotype × environment interaction in durum wheat (Triticum turgidum var. durum L.) regional yield trials
The objective of this experiment was to analyze genotype × environment (GE) interaction for grain yield of 20 durum wheat genotypes to identify the yield stability and adaptability of genotypes using GGE biplot method as well as some univariate stability statistics. The genotypes were evaluated in three rainfed stations of Sararood (Kermanshah), Maragheh and Shirvan, Iran under both rainfed and...
